The results of incremental work
I haven’t been posting much lately, and I’m sorry to have been away for so long. The couple of weeks after the end of a major project, like the Opera, everything tends to fall into a general grey area of relaxation and normalcy.
My life has been pretty stable for the last year, even when my schedule was completely hectic. While I love working on a show, it’s been such a part of my schedule over the last three years that it’s part of my life now. It’s not new anymore.
Fortunately, there’s moments when I can see that everything is paying off.
Today I met with my trainer, in the middle of some major workouts after over a couple of months of relative rest and relaxation, and a couple of the things I was able to do surprised me. My last set of quad exercises stacked the machine, and that was after an hour of beating my legs up. To say I was flabbergasted was an understatement. The same thing happened on Monday. We wrapped up the session with some bicep curls with a 45 pound bar, and in each set I was able to accomplish 5-6 reps without help. Yes, even in the fourth set.
Similar little things help me to stay on course. It’s the knowledge that I have the start of a decent financial cushion, and the way my shoulders appear in a nice t-shirt. It’s the way my apartment appears to be clean. It’s the way I have a real plan for the next year of my life.
And yet, I don’t have anything major to report. I bet you I will soon.
