What I learned driving home

I miss summer thunderstorms now that I live in Chicago. We can heavy rains, but never the magnitude of a good-old-fashioned Farm Storm. Every time I saw the floods in the fields and the darkening horizon, I was a bit excited.

And then the main storm hit. I was about four miles away from the exit from the Kansas Turnpike when visibility went to nil and little hail began to fall. Turning on my hazards and tuning my radio to The Weather Channel (BUY SIRIUS ALREADY!) I drove to the paystall. It was empty, the radio was sounding the tornado warning, and no one was behind me. So I sat there and waited it out in semi-protection. The storm gave me a car wash and saved me $2.10 in tolls.

I would have loved it more if I were at home watching it roll in.

In other news, Playing For Pizza is a great book. I’m listening to it in the car and am thoroughly enjoying it. 2 CDs down, 4 to go. I need to start listening to more Audiobooks when I’m searching for a job.

Speaking of looking for work, I could possibly volunteer with Troopers for a couple of weeks once I’m finished that the bar. it would be putting off the work search plans, but could be tons of fun. Something to consider.

Tomorrow’s the big party. Should be fun, and then I’ll try to enjoy BSG properly. Maybe on Saturday. We’ll see.
