Today’s Accomplishments

1. This morning, I officially doubled up my original deposit at Full Tilt. I probably shouldn’t have played two tables at once while the Ambien was kicking in, but it paid off this time. As a bonus, I won my first Satelite Token… now I just need to decide what tournament to [...]

Sunday Mind Splatter

I don’t think I have that strong of spring allergies, but this year seems worse than normal. Maybe it’s the delay in the warming trend, or maybe I’ve been too busy allowing my body to be invaded by mold, but it’s been a pretty bad week. My voice has gotten rougher and rougher, [...]

The results of incremental work

I haven’t been posting much lately, and I’m sorry to have been away for so long. The couple of weeks after the end of a major project, like the Opera, everything tends to fall into a general grey area of relaxation and normalcy.
My life has been pretty stable for the last year, even when [...]

The Opera - Day Two

It’s amazing what some serious exercise can do to your energy. I’ve been lifting weights pretty significantly over the last two years, and obviously I’m used to the work. Throw something else in like the Fafner puppet, and surprisingly I’m drained quickly.
All the work seems to involve my left shoulder and my right [...]

Call me Jones. Bridget Jones.

Yesterday kicked off the Get In Shape project, that should last at least until the Opera starts rehearsal in 13 days. The goal: Get the metabolism burning some fat before I start rehearsals, giving me the two perfect weeks to reasonably eat in support of the show.
To make myself stick to the plan, I [...]

Food? What’s that?

Today, I start slimming down with an eye towards the summer.
I’ve been reading The Hackers Diet, looking for any ideas that would fit into my current program. It’s an interesting read, as it breaks down the basics of weight to a formula: +/- 3500 calories = +/- 1 pound. It’s that simple.
It [...]

Step. Ouch. Step. Ouch. Step…

I knew it was going to be a pain this morning when I got up. Trainer put me through some serious leg workouts this week, forcing me to stand in an awkward position for a while as my calves shook from side to side like a drunken ballerina.
Of course, I loved every second of [...]

Over-Financial-Analysis

I re-signed with my personal trainer yesterday, locking myself into a series of four expensive payments. The original plan was the sign up in March after the opera was in performances, and work out by myself during the rehearsal period. Turns out, there was a $100 discount for the amount of sessions I [...]

…that’s body weight.

The trainer decided to push me a bit more than usual today. Therefore, he added approx 30 more pounds than normal for the last two sets.
I benched my body weight. With help, of course. With a lot of help. And only two reps each time.
But still.
Body weight.

Shiny, Useless Weightlifting Toy

Have you seen this? It’s a set of dumbbells in one tiny package. When I first saw this on the TV, I held my breath.
There was a shiny set on display at the Sportsmart when I went to pick up a pair of 20# dumbbells, and I had to play with the dials [...]
